MVP Monday: Hunter Pence, Alien Overlord

Is there really any doubt about the San Francisco Giants’ player of the week? Hunter Pence just confirmed what everyone already knew about him. Hunter Pence is an alien. In the past week, he’s hit 6 home runs and knocked in 19 RBIs. That’s impressive considering we’ve seen the Giants go weeks without 19 RBIs as a team! Not to mention the overall lack of home run hitting on this team.

If that’s not enough for you, (greedy much?) how about this? He’s had a .448 batting average, .469 OBP, 1.103 SLG, and 1.572 OPS. He leads all of MLB in OPS, SLG, Home Runs, and RBIs for the past week. He’s also tied for 1st with Freddie Freeman for total number of hits (13) for the past week. “Pence joined Willie Mays as the only Giants to hit a home run in every game of a four-game series against the Dodgers,” per Denise.
Still not enough for you? You seriously are messed up then. Okay, well, in the past month he leads the MLB in home runs (11), tied with Ryan Zimmerman, and RBIs (31), is 2nd in SLG (.682) behind Brandon Moss, and 3rd in OPS (1.098) behind Moss and Shane Victorino.
In fact, MLB also named him NL Player of the week.
By the way, he also did this:
“That’s a Grand Slam for Hunter Pence!”
He’s had a great month and a monster week, or should I say, Alien Week! (yeah, cheesy, I know)
So, Hunter Pence, we salute you! #SignPenceNow
Honorable Mention
Were it any other week, Gregor Blanco would have to be in contention for our MVP of the week. It’s worth pointing out that in 19 at-bats, he hit an MLB leading .526 during the past week! He also led the team this week (and ranked 2nd in MLB) with an .591 OBP. A pretty good week at the plate who is only hitting .266 on the season.
