NL West Wednesday: Standings Update

Even though the San Francisco Giants are currently tied for last place in the NL West, some of you may want an update on how the rest of the division is shaping up to look come the end of September. Denise will likely give you a rundown of all the happenings this week in the West, here are the current standings as of 8/26.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a clear hold on clinching the division, with the Arizona Diamondbacks 8.5 games back. The D-backs still have a shot, but it’s going to take a hot streak from them and/or a slump from the Dodgers in order to pull it off in just over a month.

The Dodgers did lose Tuesday night to the Chicago Cubs, 2-3. Brian Wilson, who made his Dodger debut last Thursday against the Miami Marlins, faced 1 batter to get the Dodgers out of the 6th after Clayton Kershaw left the game.

The Colorado Rockies are currently sitting in 3rd place, however, if the Giants win their series finale today, it would put them tied with the Rockies, and potentially a shard 3rd place depending on how the San Diego Padres fare today against Arizona. It’s not much, but I’d much rather end the season somewhere in the middle rather than at the very bottom of the standings.

By the way, in case you are wondering, the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Padres are 5-5 in the last 10 games. The Giants and Rockies are 4-6.
