Every year in the Fall a select group of prospects are chosen to represent their respective clubs and compete against each other in the Arizona Fall League.

The list of current and past Major League stars that played in the AFL during its 20 years of existence is long and impressive: Derek Jeter, Mike Piazza, Roy Halladay, Pat Burrell, Albert Pujols, Joey Votto, Matt Kemp, Troy Tulowitzki, Evan Longoria, Andrew McCutchen, Mike Trout, Bryce Harper — heck, even Michael Jordan had a brief stint in the AFL during his attempt at pro baseball.  Hunter Pence played in 2006, Buster Posey in 2009, Brandon Belt in 2010…  you get the point; it’s where the top prospects go to compete.

San Francisco, Atlanta, New York (Mets and Yankees), and Pittsburgh prospects make up the Scottsdale Scorpions.  This year’s Giants invitees include: #1 prospect RHP Kyle Crick (A San Jose), RHP Cody Hall (closer, AA Richmond), #19 prospect LHP Adalberto Mejia (A San Jose), #15 prospect C Andrew Susac (AA Richmond), former top prospect 1B Angel Villalona (AA Richmond), and outfielder Jarrett Parker (AA Richmond).

Scottsdale opens up at Salt River on October 8th.
