Zito Looks To Return to Respectability

By Alex Maffei

Barry Zito had an awful last start against the Boston Red Sox at home during interleague play. He was pulled after only 3.2 innings pitched, which consisted of the Sox dropping a 6 spot on him on 7 base hits and a dinger.

Tonight Zito heads into Colorado to hopefully bounce back and show a flash of respectability in what is in all likelihood, his final season as a Giant. This was a letdown year for him, following his brilliant and glorious show of resolve and skill in the Giants postseason comeback run.

He sits at a 5.63 ERA and 4-9 win-loss record compared to his 2012 success story in which he boasted a 15-9 record and 4.15 ERA. Zito will bump up against the Rockies’ Juan Nicasio who does have a winning record at 7-6 but holds an okay ERA of 4.79.

Here are the lineups for tonight’s Rocky Mountain showdown:

Dex 8, DJ 4, Cuddy 9, Bull 2, Nolan 5, Todd 3, Culberson 7, Herrera 6, Nicasio 1.

San Francisco: Blanco cf, Scutaro 2b, Belt 1b, Posey c, Pence rf, Sandoval 3b, Crawford ss, Peguero lf, Zito p

Who’s Hot?:

Pablo Sandoval has 4 RBI on 5 hits over the last 7 days, including an RBI triple.
