NL West Trade: Ian Kennedy of #DBacks to #Padres

The Giants play the Diamondbacks seven more times this year. They play the Padres six more times this year. We are so used to seeing Ian Kennedy in a D-Backs uniform that I thought this was important to relay to Giants fans. The trade looks like this:

The Diamondbacks rotation has Wade Miley, Patrick Corbin, and Randall Delgado, with Brandon McCarthy and Trevor Cahill in rehab and Tyler Skaggs in the minors. For the rest of the 2013 season, I have the feeling like their rotation will be fine. Also never hurts to have another reliever in the bullpen, and this takes care of the Diamondbacks’ need for a left-handed reliever. The Padres rotation now has Edinson Volquez, Eric Stults, Andrew Cashner, Tyson Ross, and Ian Kennedy.

Ian Kennedy enters another arbitration year next year and his best season was in 2011 with a sub-3 ERA and just above 3 FIP. This year he spots a 5.23 ERA, 4.59 FIP, and a 66.5% LOB%.

Joe Thatcher is entering his final year of arbitration in 2014, and against 70 lefties, Thatcher has gone .212/.257/.231 against with a .222 wOBA against also. Good numbers for a bullpen arm, and the DBacks. The Padres gave up a reliever prospect, a draft pick, and Thatcher while selling low on Kennedy. Some of the critics are already going after the Diamondbacks for giving up on Kennedy so soon.

The non-waiver trade deadline concludes at 1:00PM PST.
