Trade: #SFGiants Acquire RHP Guillermo Moscoso from #Cubs to Help Bullpen

The San Francisco Giants have announced a trade, but this trade isn’t anything of a blockbuster, not even anything conceivably at the Marco Scutaro level, but perhaps a notch (or two) below that one:

September 20, 2012; San Francisco, CA, USA; Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Guillermo Moscoso (56) pitches the ball against the San Francisco Giants during the fifth inning at AT

RHP Guillermo Moscoso has played with the Detroit, Texas, Oakland, Colorado, and Chicago organizations during the regular season, getting MLB time with the Rangers, A’s, and Rockies. His best season was in 2011 with the Athletics when he posted a 3.38 ERA (4.23 FIP) and a 1.6 fWAR. In 2012 he posted a 6.12 ERA (4.49 FIP) in 50.0 IP with the Rockies. Over the course of his career, Moscoso has posted a .303 wOBA against vs. RHH and a .320 wOBA against vs. LHH. These are numbers that shouldn’t make you surprised that he’s spent 2013 in the Minors, but maybe the Giants have seen something they can fix up or they think they have found someone that can contribute to the big league club.

In a separate move, Jake Dunning has been optioned for Joaquin Arias’ activation from the DL. I expect Moscoso to be the guy Jean Machi looks over his shoulder for.
