Chad Gaudin went 7 strong innings as the Giants mustered 2 runs in the first inning to win their first game out of the All Star Break.
Jul 19, 2013; San Francisco, CA, USA; San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Chad Gaudin (57) pitches against the Arizona Diamondbacks during the second inning at AT
Gaudin’s line was 7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 8 K. He stifled D’Back hitters all night and didn’t even get into the stretch with less than two outs.
Buster Posey started the scoring with a 1 out double to the left center field that scored Gregor Blanco from first base. Blanco was able to beat the relay from the outfield. The second run came on a two out single from Hunter Pence that scored Posey from third. That was the offense for the Gmen tonight. They scattered the next 3 hits throughout the rest of the game.
The game became interesting in the top of the eighth when there was two outs bases loaded for Paul Goldschmidt. I was holding my breath and had a sigh of relief when he grounded out to shortstop.
The strong start by Gaudin should hopefully set-up the rest of the starting pitching staff.
