Saturday Giants/Padres Lineups And Pre-Game

By Denise Walos

Tonight the San Francisco Giants will attempt to win three games in a row against the San Diego Padres. They haven’t had a three-game winning streak in over two months but I think they can definitely win this series before the All-Star break. Here are the starting lineups for tonight’s 7:15PM Giants @ Padres (Game 3 of 4):

Tim Lincecum is coming off a pretty decent start vs the NY Mets on Monday. The Giants lost 4-3 but Lincecum had a season high 11 strikeouts. He is 4-9 with a 4.61 ERA. He likes pitching at Petco Park, he has a 2.48 career ERA in 12 starts in San Diego.

Edinson Volquez is 6-7 with a 5.22 ERA. Yonder Alonso (1B) and Jedd Gyorko (2B) are back in the Padres lineup while Kyle Blanks (LF/1B), who does well against Giants pitching, is on the 15 day DL with achilles tendinitis.

The Giants activated reliever Santiago Casilla from the DL and purchased the contract of Jeff Francoeur (who the Giants picked up from the Royals this week). Chris Heston (RHP AAA-Fresno) was surprisingly designated for assignment to make room on the roster for Francoeur. Nick Noonan and Jean Machi were sent back to Fresno.

Henry Schulman reported this afternoon that the Giants will make up the rained out Cincinnati Reds game on July 23 as a doubleheader at AT&T. The good news is the Giants won’t have to go to Cincinnati to make up the game. The bad news is the Giants will play six games in five days. They’ll need an additional starter to help out in the rotation. Will Vogelsong be back? Likely not. Will Matt Cain be ok? I’m worried. Will the Giants have to start Kickham again or is there a trade yet to be named? Hmmm.

Earlier today:  Cubs claimed OF Cole Gillespie off waivers from the Giants.
