May 20, 2013; San Francisco, CA, USA; San Francisco Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong (32) follows through on a pitch against the Washington Nationals in the second inning at AT

Bruce Bochy talked Ryan Vogelsong today before the Reds game and indicated he’s at least a month away from being able to return, according to Andrew Baggarly. While most Giants fans would probably like to have Vogey back sooner, the news that he’s progressing is certainly the type of injury news you want to hear. He’ll be playing catch today.

If you recall, Vogelsong was placed on the DL back in May with a broken right hand (pinky) he received while batting. He just had his splint removed last week and has been anxious to start throwing again. The Giants have been struggling without him in the rotation as well, going 14-22 since he hit the disabled list. Chad Gaudin and Mike Kickham have been filling in the spot in the rotation, but with injuries abound, including Gaudin, I’m sure the Giants will be glad to have a healthy Vogelsong back in the lineup. And knowing Vogelsong’s chip on his shoulder, you can bet good money that no one will be happier for him to be back then Ryan himself.

Also, just for your amusement, Henry Schulman shared with what was going through Bochy’s mind in returning to the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati today.
