25th Overall Pick Christian Arroyo Signs with Giants

From Jim Callis minutes ago on Tuesday morning:
#Giants ink 1st-rder Christian Arroyo for $1,866,500. Florida HS SS, good bat, surprising pop, might be 2B or 3B, Florida recruit. #mlbdraft

Proud to officially be a San Francisco Giant. Time to get to AT&T park ASAP and win a ring! Thanks for the support #SFgiants

According to Baseball America’s slot value page, that is precisely at slot value, showing that the Giants definitely had Arroyo pegged as “their guy,” as opposed to look to save money on someone and spend the savings on other signings. Arroyo becomes the fourth pick of the Top 10 the Giants have signed including second rounder Ryder Jones, eighth rounder Tyler Horan, and ninth round pick D.J. Snelten.
The Giants are listed by Baseball America as being less than ten thousand dollars over their slot allotted money so far. What that means if that held (from Baseball America):
"There are penalties for clubs that exceed their bonus pools: a 75 percent tax on a 0-5 percent overage; the loss of a first-round pick and a 75 percent tax for more than 5 and up to 10 percent; the loss of first- and second-rounders and a 100 percent tax for more than 10 and up to 15 percent; and the loss of two-first-rounders and a 100 percent tax for more than 15 percent."
Right now they are just at the “75% tax” level. More to come on this signing as we hear about it.
