According to Henry Schulman at the SF Chronicle, Ramon Ramirez has been designated for assignment (DFA’d) and the Giants have recalled Jake Dunning. Dunning, according to Schulman is “a 24-year-old right-hander who has an impressive 1.75 ERA in 23 games for Triple-A Fresno. He also has 31 strikeouts against 10 walks in 36 innings. The Giants drafted Dunning in the 33rd round of the 2009 draft, from Indiana University.”
The Giants will have 10 days to trade or waive Ramirez. He’s had a poor season and getting blown up in Pittsburgh last night probably didn’t help his case.
In other news, the Giants also recalled Hector Sanchez today and optioned Brett Pill back to Fresno. I’m sure all the Pill supporters will be calling KNBR today about that one.
