After Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong suffered a broken hand, speculation was that long-arm Chad Gaudin would take his rotation spot. However, an injury to Santiago Casilla (which could potentially lead to surgery) put a mild damper on that plan given the Giants’ reluctance to eat further into their ‘pen.

Speaking to Jim Bowden earlier this morning, San Francisco Giants assistant general manager Bobby Evans said that they’d prefer to keep Gaudin in the bullpen and are currently looking at other internal options to take Vogey’s spot:

"Bobby Evans AGM SF told us they will make decision on who will replace Vogelsong in rotation tomorrow choice between Heston, Loux or Kickham"

Neither Loux or Kickham are listed on the Giants’ 40-man roster, which could give Heston the lead in a potential call-up as the Giants may not want to put anybody else on the 40-man roster.

There was also speculation that the Giants could trade for a lame duck pitcher, say like Miami’s Ricky Nolasco, but given his free agent status to be, it’s hard to suggest (hope) the Giants would part with anything of significant value.
