For the past few days, it’s been expected that San Francisco Giants reliever Santiago Casilla would be undergoing knee surgury and today, we have confirmation.

Per Amy G:

"Casilla will have knee surgery this week. Tuesday starter still TBA. #sfgiants"

The news, while not shocking, certainly wont sit well with the orange and black faithful.

There’s no news on when Casilla will return as that’s expected to be announced post-operation, though, it’s likely he’ll back after the All-Star break at some point.

Casilla’s operation comes directly on the hells of starter Ryan Vogelsong‘s surgery, forcing the Giants brass into a bit of a bind when it comes to their pitching rotation. Still, with Casilla already on the disabled list, as of right now no roster moves are expected.

Jose Mijares, George Kontos and Sandy Rosario should all see an increase in work until Casilla is ready to return.

It’s another tough blow to the Giants’ pitching staff, even though the operation was widely expected.

Wait, you guys hear that? I think somebody in the front office is kicking tires.
