Ryan Vogelsong

(32) hits a sacrifice bunt for an RBI against the Washington Nationals in the fourth inning at AT

In the midst of his best start of the season, San Francisco Giants starter Ryan Voglesong was forced from the game tonight after being hit in the right hand by a pitch while batting.

The injury occurred in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Vogelsong attempted to swing.

Vogelsong, clearly in pain, wrapped his hand behind his back and walked towards the opposing dugout before Bruce Bochy and trainer Dave Groeschner made their way to Vogey, who promptly removed his batting glove. A quick glance at the hand from Groeschner was followed by Groesch wrapping Vogelsong’s hand in a towel and quickly escorting him into the dugout and down the tunnel where he’ll be x-rayed.

As of now, there is no information as to what happened though we’ll be sure to update the story soon is word comes out.

Vogelsong had been shutting out the Nationals through five innings, giving up only three hits and a walk in the process to go along with two strikeouts.

Hopefully it’s nothing serious though, Groeschner’s initial reaction seemed alarming.
