Despite getting 10-hits and one walk the Giants were only able to scratch three runs across the plate against new Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu. Ryu pitched out of jams all evening. The top of the first and second innings had double plays involved after the first two Giants batters reached base. Finally, in the fourth inning Joaquin Arias hit a two out single to score Buster Posey.
The other two runs came in the seventh inning with runners at second and third, Madison Bumgarner grounds to the short stop Justin Sellers, who errantly threw the ball away from the catcher. The error allowed both Giants runners to score.
Defensive highlights include Joaquin Arias in a rare appearance at first base for Brandon Belt who was sick. Arias looked good at first base and is a really good utility player digging out four or five balls in the dirt from Brandon Crawford and Pablo Sandoval. Sandoval speared at least two balls hit towards him to get the runners at first.
