Poor Dan Runzler can’t catch a break. The 28 year old reliever was optioned back to Fresno this morning after struggling this Spring for the Giants.

Rev Run had hopped to break camp with the Giants after dealing with a multitude of injuries the past few seasons, the more famous of the two coming all the way back in 2010 during Runzler’s lone professional at-bat. During a July 9th game in 2010, Runzler took an awkward swing during a roadtrip in Milwaukee, immediately falling to the ground, later being diagnosed with a broken knee cap, sidelining him during the Giants’ 2010 World Series Championship run. The Rev had been having an impressive season up until that point, holding a 3.03 ERA to go along with 37 strikeouts in just 32 innings – not bad for a 25 year old at the time. Sadly though, 2011 didn’t go so well nor did 2012 as Runzler struggled to stay healthy and to stay in the big leagues.

Now Runzler will return to Fresno to play with the Grizzlies, a team and city he’s become far too familiar with the past few years.

I’ve always liked Dan, so, hopefully we’ll see him return to the Bay at some point this season. Until then, good luck and good health as a Grizzly. We’ll be seeing you soon, I’m sure.
