It was a pretty rough weekend for many of the San Francisco Giant stars who participated in the World Baseball Classic. Closer, Sergio Romo, after an extended outing on Thursday night that didn’t exactly sit well with the San Francisco Giants brass was spotted with rage eyes during the Mexico-Canada brawl on Saturday. Thankfully nothing came of it for Romo, but, given both scenarios – I’m sure the Giants are glad to see their closer back in camp. In addition to Romo’s Team Mexico being eliminated, Team Venezuela which featured Giant talent like Pablo Sandoval and Marco Scutaro also was eliminated in the first round – a shocker to many.
Sandoval, Romo and Scutaro are all expected to return to camp within a day or two, along with other lower-level Giant property like Team Italy’s Tyler LaTorre who was also eliminated – but not before he was able to single off Giants teammate and Team USA’s Ryan Vogelsong in Italy’s loss Saturday.
The return to camp doesn’t mean those particular Giants are done with their international competitions though as they’ll rejoin the club in time for the Giants’ scheduled tilt against Team Japan this coming Thursday. Team Japan will make the pit stop in Arizona and tune-up against the Giants before they head north to AT&T Park for the semi-finals of the WBC.
