The World Baseball Classic is nearly upon us and today, Joe Torre (hiss, boo, hiss) announced that Ryan Vogelsong will be starting the second game for Team USA – essentially making him the number two starter behind (most likely) the Toronto Blue Jay’s R.A. Dickey or the Washington National’s Gio Gonzalez. Team USA is still currently looking for another starter to add to the roster as they currently only have Dickey, Vogelsong and Derek Holland on the roster with Andy Pettite and Gio Gonzalez to be officially announced at a later date.

It’s another amazing accomplishment in Vogelsong’s storybook career – or at least, the last few chapters of it.

Team USA is ranked as the #2 team in the tournament behind Team Cuba.
