The San Francisco Giants showed heavy interest in reliever Brandon Lyon in recent weeks – so much so that many outlets reported that the two sides were deep in contractual discussions, but, that smoke eventually died out. Now, according to Jon Heyman, it appears Lyon will have a new home – but not in San Francisco.
The New York Mets are close to a deal with Lyon, which could have an impact in multiple ways:

With the soon to be addition of Lyon, the Mets will probably back off their apparent interest in Brian Wilson and given his lack of a contract at this point – you have to wonder if Wilson and the Giants can forge a reunion despite the offseason awkwardness.
Granted, the Mets may opt to sign both players (though, I’d expect Lyon and Wilson both would prefer to close in any situation) – especially if they can convince Wilson to take a minor league deal – or Wilson could simply opt to sign elsewhere, moving on from both San Francisco and New York – but if you were hoping for a Wilson return to the orange and black, the odds (slightly) increased a bit today.
