Keeping up with the Jones’, or Giants, in this case, Buster Posey followed the route of the majority of other arbitration eligible Giants and agreed to a contract before setting an arbitrational date.
Posey, according to multiple sources, agreed to a one year, $8 million dollar after his MVP campaign – a pretty solid number given Ryan Howard, as Hank Schulman pointed out, received $10 million in a similar scenario.
Still – one year deal or not – it’s widely expected that the Giants and Posey will try their best to iron out a long term deal in the near future, though, I’d doubt talks to continue into the season if the two can’t come to a long term agreement – at least not in the seasons first few months.
