And the Cy Youngs Go To…

Tampa Bay number one overall draft pick David Price just edged out Justin Verlander in what the BBWAA called the closest race that wasn’t a tie for the Cy Young. Here is the vote distribution:

If you’re wondering how the LA voters went, they went Price-Jared Weaver-Verlander, so even if they had swapped Weaver and Verlander, JV still would have lost. The biggest gripe anyone might have is with Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star Telegram who voted for Fernando Rodney for the Cy Young Award.

On to the NL, some Giants fans may have held out hope that perfect gamer Matt Cain would win, but guys like Clayton Kershaw, and R.A. Dickey have just had better years from a statistical stance. Gio Gonzalez was also given a healthy amount of facetime, but I felt like this was a two-horse race. The results said this about that train of thought:

It was a one-horse race according to the voters, and I’m not surprised it went the way it did. Good for Mr. Dickey winning this award. Matt Cain as you see finished 6th, behind Braves closer Craig Kimbrel, who got a first place vote from ESPN writer Tim Kurkjian.

The MVP awards are announced tomorrow, and that looks to be an exciting day for most Giants fans and baseball fans with the AL side of it as well.
