Brandon Belt

(9) opens a champagne bottle after defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 in game seven of the 2012 NLCS to advance to the world series at AT&T Park

Although Bruce Bochy and Brian Sabean liked to give tough love to their first baseman, it appears the gruffness was only used to motivate Brandon Belt as the Giants are telling teams he’s not available in trade talks

SI’s Jon Heyman has reported that a handful of teams have called the Giants, who held no secrets when it came to expressing their frustration with the baby giraffe, asking about his availability:

"#SFGiants have been getting lots of calls on brandon belt. good defender, potential, low salary"

But the calls were quickly turned away, as it appears the Giants have no intention of losing one of their favorite zoo creatures:

"#SFGiants getting calls on belt but won’t trade. goals are to re-sign pagan, scutaro. plus pen (affeldt, if they can)"

As many struggles as the young Belt had, it would be a terrible decision to move the lengthy Texan outside of a can’t miss deal – so good on the Giants for holding strong, despite their frustrations at times.
