Reliving The San Francisco Giants’ 2012 Postseason – NLDS Game 3

By Bryan Rose

What? You didn’t think that just because the San Francisco Giants won the World Series, we’d stop gloating, did you? Pshaw.

Over the next few days, we’ll be reliving the best moments of each of the San Francisco Giants’ 11 victories, staring with their first win of the 2012 postseason – Game 3 against the Cincinnati Reds.

Down 0-2 and facing the first of what would be six postseason elimination games, the Giants took the field behind the much chastised Barry Zito and things didn’t exactly start out peachy for the former Cy Young award winner. A Brandon Phillips single (though he was thrown out stealing moments later) followed by a walk and a hit put two on for Jay Bruce who singled to right, giving the Reds an early first inning run. Zito clamped down from there though as did the Giants’ bullpen as they held the Reds to one run in the ten inning contest. A Scott Rolen error that unbeknownst at the time opened up what would be the proverbial flood gates allowed the Giants to take Game 3 and make history two days later.

Here’s how the Giants were able to capture Game 3 en route to their 3-2 series victory –

Buster Posey guns down Brandon Phillips in the 1st inning:

Angel Pagan‘s sacrifice fly scores Gregor Blanco in the 3rd:

Hunter Pence makes a sliding catch in the 2nd inning:

Joaquin Arias ends a potential 8th inning Reds rally with this catch:

Buster Posey scores the winning run on Scott Rolen’s error:

Sergio Romo ends the game, earning his first postseason save:
