Bumgarner Goes Yard; Giants Even Up Series

By Melissa Felkins

The San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies tonight at Coors Field, 9-8, and they did it partly on the long ball. Brandon Belt and Madison Bumgarner went yard tonight. Bumgarner had a 3 run homer in the 4th inning to tie the game 4-4. Belt had a solo home run in the 8th inning on an inside fastfall – something he’s struggled hitting this season. Belt also hit a 2 run double in the 5th inning, contributing 4 RBIs tonight.

By the way, the Dodgers lost tonight to Arizona, so to spare you the suspense, that brought the lead in the NL West to 6 games.

As exciting as Bumgarner’s home run was, he struggled on the mound tonight, allowing 5 ER in 4.1 innings. He only issued 1 walk on the night though. George Kontos finished out the 5th inning and earned the Win.

Pablo Sandoval continued to struggled at the plate, and really, on the field as well. He was 0 for 4 on the night and left 3 stranded on base. Looks like the “talk” Bochy had with him today hasn’t quite sank in yet. Could it be he spends yet another post season riding the bench? If he doesn’t get it together soon, I would expect it. Every starter tonight except Brandon Crawford and Sandoval chipped in with at least 1 hit tonight. Even Bumgarner went 2 for 2 tonight (including that previously mentioned home run).

Oh, and then Bochy said this about Huff after the game.

Aubrey Huff. Continuing to give me a good chuckle.

The Giants go for the series win tomorrow with Tim Lincecum on the mound.
