Giants Bested By Diamondbacks in Series Closer

By Melissa Felkins

You know it’s back when the hosts of the KNBR post-game wrap have a hard time picking players of the game and spend more time talking about the opposing team. 2 Runs. 4 Hits. 2 Errors. That was the San Francisco Giants line tonight. That’s not the worst of it though. Compared to the Arizona Diamondbacks line of 6 Runs, 13 Hits, and 0 Errors, it was a pretty bleek night. The Diamondbacks take the series in the win tonight, 6 – 2.

Madison Bumgarner struggled on the hill tonight. He allowed 4 runs and 7 hits in 6 1/2 innings, which dealt him his third straight loss. As for the Diamondbacks, former Oakland player, Trevor Cahill pitched great, and even flirted with a no hitter until the 7th inning.

The only runs scored by the Giants came in the 7th inning. Marco Scutaro ended Cahill’s no-hitter bid with a single, and the Giants loaded the bases. Brandon Belt knocked in the 2 RBIs tonight with a single.

Of note, the benches cleared in the 8th inning after a scuffle between Pablo Sandoval and John McDonald. Pablo clearly thought McDonald should have slid into 3B instead of running into him. No ejections were warranted however.

Xavier Nady left the game early and reportedly has a strained hamstring. A day off tomorrow will hopefully do the Giants good.

All is not lost though, the Dodgers lost again tonight and Padres Cameron Maybin robbed Matt Kemp of a go-ahead 2 run home run. Start writing your thank you cards now to Mr. Maybin. So as terrible as tonight’s game was, the Giants still have a 4 1/2 game lead in the NL West.
