Giants Rally, Fall Short; Rockies 5, Giants 4

By Melissa Felkins

Here’s a summary of players and what they meant to me in this game.

Disappointments: Nate Schierholtz, Santiago Casilla, Buster Posey

Awesome: Gregor Blanco, Melky Cabrera

I’m not going to mock Tim Lincecum for going 7.0 innings but, he gave up 4 runs. If you’ve listen to any of the Giants broadcast over the last two years 4 is the magic number. Most of our starters have a ridiculous winning records when 4 or more runs are scored. I’m sure the inverse of that is true. If the Giants give up 4 or more runs that have ridiculous losing records.

I would say that Angel Pagan was awesome but had an error which led to a run so, No Awesome Rating for you! Pagan did well in the batter’s box, going 3 for 5 with an RBI. Gregor Blanco has established himself as the lead off and he has earned it. Blanco was 1 for 2 with three BB and and two runs scored. Melky Cabrera went 1 for 5 with two RBIs.

The good news is that the Giants came back from a 3 run deficit, something that they rarely do. Now when they do it, they need to make sure they cash in on the opportunity.

Now for the bad: Santiago Casilla gave up a go ahead HR in the top of the ninth. Buster Posey was an 0 for 4 with a BB. Nate Schierholtz worked a 3-2 count and struck out looking with bases loaded in the top of the 9th. Overall the team was 2 for 16 with RISP. Lastly, the Gaints have a major league high 41 errors that continued today with the team racking up 3 more errors.

On another note, Giants interim 3rd basemen Joaquin Arias was HBP in the 4th inning. It is unknown how long Arias will be out. X-rays were negative and they’re hoping it was just a forearm contusion.
