Pat Burrell To Sign One Day Contract, Retire With Phillies

By Bryan Rose

For some Giant fans, this might make their eye twitch and face snarl into a cringe, but Pat Burrell will sign a one day contract to retire as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. The current Giants scout spent parts of nine seasons with the Phillies, amassing a career .257 average to go along with 251 HR and 827 RBI.

Burrell played an intricate part in the ’10 World Series run for the Giants and has often made mention of the Giants being his childhood team – but despite his past and current affiliation to the black and orange, Burrell spent his best years in Philadelphia and although there was a somewhat ugly exit, the city of brotherly love obviously holds a special place in his baseball heart.

The Phillies will honor Pat in May when they take on the Boston Red Sox.
