After three innings, the Fresno Grizzlies led 3-0. However, that’s not the story Giants fans are concerned about. Ryan Vogelsong made his second Major League(rehab) start as he prepares to be ready to make his 2012 debut with the San Francisco Giants against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 15th at AT&T Park. With Barry Zito currently the only Giant with a winning record, the Giants hope to see the consistency they saw from Ryan Vogelsong in 2011. His start on Tuesday, April 10th gave Giants fan a reason to smile. That is, if you’re not still smiling about Barry Zito throwing his first complete-game shut-out in a Giants uniform.
Vogelsong9(1-0) went six solid innings for the Fresno Grizzlies against the Las Vegas 51’s, giving up two earned runs and taking the win. He surrendered six hits and one walk, while striking out six. He needed 93 pitches to do so, 60 of which were strikes. Vogelsong faced 23 batters, with four groundouts and three flyouts for the right-hander. He was pitching to a familar face, as Eli Whiteside was catching him for Fresno.
Currently, Ryan Vogelsong looks more than ready to join the Giants for his first start when he faces the Pittsburgh Pirates. A great story and fan favorite, Giants fans are eagerly awaiting Vogelsong’s return.
