Buster Posey

Official: Brandon Belt, Pill, Sanchez Make Giants Roster – Chris Stewart To Yankees – Panda To Catch?

By Bryan Rose

It was all but hinted last night, but now we have official word that Brandon Belt, Hector Sanchez and Brett Pill all have made the Opening Day roster for the San Francisco Giants.

In addition to the youthful adds, the Giants also made some other roster moves that may or may not appease you, depending on your love of who your favorite backup catcher is – or should I say, was? Speculation through last night had the Giants carrying three catchers but things changed drastically from those reports as Eli Whiteside was optioned to AAA Fresno and Chris Stewart was traded to the Yankees in exchange for right-handed minor league reliever George Kontos.

Yes – that’s right. The Giants, who were so apparently concerned with Buster Posey‘s workload behind the dish are carrying two catchers, he and Hector Sanchez. In addition, Bochy also made mention (h/t Shea) that he will be comfortable allowing Hector Sanchez to be used in a pinch hitting role resulting in Pablo Sandoval catching.

I’ll stop so you can read that one more time.

All done? Good.

In addition, pitchers Dan Otero and Clay Hensley made the roster as did everybody’s favorite speedster, Gregor Blanco.
