Deep in the abyss of Chukchansi Park, there is an elderly woman who has spent a large majority of the past few days stitching up the uniforms for Hector Sanchez and Brandon Belt since they were all but granted free passes back to Fresno.
But according to Janie McCauley, it appears that both Belt and Sanchez will be with the Giants as they travel to Arizona to open the season Friday evening:
"#SFGiants likely to keep 3 catchers, w/Hector Sanchez making team. Bochy hinted Brandon Belt will start at 1B, Aubrey Huff LF opening day."
I had expected the Giants to carry three catchers because of Bochy’s past and the Posey injury, though, I wasn’t expecting Sanchez to be one of the three. And as far as Belt, well, it’s clear he has nothing more to prove at a lower level – making the big boy club was an obvious decision to most, but it took a near perfect Spring from Belt in addition to an injury riddled few weeks from Nate Schierholtz to apparently cause the change of heart.
Nothing is official yet – we wont know the rosters until tomorrow afternoon, but McCauley is usually spot on so chances are – Hector and Brandon might want to look for some real estate in the City.
