Clay Hensley(formerly with the Florida Marlins), a reliever who was a lock for a bullpen spot on the San Francisco Giants, left yesterday’s game with what appeared to be an issue with his lower body.
This spring, Hensley has pitched 9.1 innings with a 2.89 ERA in 10 games. he had yet to give up a homerun, giving up 4 walks, but also striking out eight. He would be a solid right-handed addition to the bullpen, if healthy. Right now the Giants have said it appears to be a mild calf strain, but Hensely is going in for an MRI just to be sure.
Now the question is, if Hensley isn’t ready for Opening Day, who takes his place in the bullpen?
His Major League totals are as follows:
ERA: 3.92 WHIP: 1.37 Games: 46 Saves: 8/12 Innings Pitched: 78.0 Walks: 31 Strikeouts: 57 Opponents Average: .247
