Gary Brown To Open Season At Double-A Richmond

By Bryan Rose

After being sent to Minor League camp earlier in the day, it’s been announced via John Shea that Giants’ top prospect Gary Brown will open the year in Richmond, Virginia for the Flying Squirrels.

Per Shea:

"The Giants reassigned Gary Brown, their center fielder of the future, and he was to report to minor-league camp. It was a move to give Brown more playing time. Through 13 games of the exhibition season, he had 11 at-bats (two hits), and he wasn’t getting enough reps to find his groove. So now he’ll get more consistent playing time, beginning with a minor-league game tomorrow. The Giants decided that Brown will open at Double-A Richmond rather than Triple-A Fresno after his super year in Class A San Jose (.336, 14 homers, 80 RBIs, 53 steals)."

A good move all around, in my opinion.
