Little mention has been made in the past few weeks in terms of any progress between Matt Cain and the San Francisco Giants on a contract extension, this after multiple reports came out saying that the two sides were inching closer to a deal.
Now, San Francisco Giants beat writer to MLB.com Chris Haft is expecting that both sides will have a deal complete sometime during Spring Training, something many of us have assumed for quite a while:
"What do you hear on the Matt Cain talks?— Harry G., Helendale, Calif.Mostly static, because general manager Brian Sabean doesn’t telegraph his intentions, and Cain likes to keep everybody guessing. But I expect Cain and the Giants to make a deal during Spring Training."
Cain certainly has all the bargaining power in the world given his ability and the thin free agent market after this upcoming season, but as I’ve mentioned before – Matt has made a home in San Francisco with his family. I’ve never really felt the Giants and Cain wouldn’t be able to come to terms on an extension, but reassurance is always nice. Well, except when you find out something awful -like Cain to the Yankees or your girlfriend is sleeping with your best friend, then reassurance sucks. Matter of fact, just forget the whole reassurance thing. I’m going to uh, go call my best friend now….
