San Francisco Giants 2012 Projections – Aubrey Huff

You know, I’ve never met a person that didn’t want to like Aubrey Huff. I mean, he’s quite the character – but son of a bitch he can make it so difficult at times.

After a horrific 2011 in which Huff posted a .246 avg to go with 12 HR and 59 RBI, Aubrey recommitted himself for 2012 after admitting his lack of conditioning (along with being in the metal pooper) for the ’11 season was the reason for his woeful game.

The Giants publicly castrated Huff at season end for his lack of, well, everything and apparently it worked – at least for now – as Huff not only has been texting half naked pictures to Manager Bruce Bochy every week to show off his sexy new bod, but he’s been spending his offseason at Athletes Performance Institute in Arizona along with doing a hefty amount of Pilates.

In Huff’s words, his body is “ripped”. Yes, you can raise your eyebrow – you have reason to.

Coming into the final year of his hefty contract, Huff’s position on the squad remains up in the air. With the additions of Melky Cabrera and Angel Pagan, you run into a bit of a logjam in the outfield assuming Nate Schierholtz will be given time. At first base, the Giants have maintained they’d prefer to play Brandon Belt only in the infield – but given Huff’s looming presence and the Giants continued mishandling of Belt, you can’t help but be concerned that Belt will find his way back to Fresno until Huff plays his way out of the job (sometime around September, again).

If Belt does make the roster out of Spring and Schierholtz wins the job in right, Huff seemingly would be platooned – which frightens me into the realization that Belt isn’t going to make the Opening Day roster unless he murders it in Scottsdale.

For Huff, assuming he does win a starting role – what is his 2012 season going to look like?
