No, it’s not who to play at first base, although I do have something to say bout that…
Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News is reporting that the Giants will have to chose between Mike Fontenot and Jeff Keppinger.
Both are non-tender candidates, and by Monday the Giants will have chosen who they would rather have on their roster.
Jeff Keppinger was a mid-season pickup, playing second base most of the time after Freddy Sanchez went on the disabled list. He’s a solid addition to any team, with his ability to put the ball in play, and his dislike of striking out. He played quite well at second base, and everyone in the clubhouse got along with him very well.
The same can be said for Mike Fontenot. He still has quite a bit of pop in his bat, but his real value is that he can play anywhere in the infield, shortstop, second, or third base.
So, with the winter meetings in full swing down in Dallas, who will the San Francisco Giants decide to keep?
