Yankees Offer To Trade Jesus Montero For Matt Cain, Giants Decline

By Bryan Rose

Some big and unexpected news out of New York this evening via Frank Russo of NY Baseball Digest with a h/t to SFBleacherGirl.

"I received some interesting Thanksgiving news from down in Tampa. Apparently, the Yankees recently contacted the Giants and offered four players for Matt Cain. The package was a combination of at least one position player and several minor league pitchers. Some of the names that were bandied about were Jesus Montero, Nick Swisher, and different minor league talent that included names such as Dellin Betances, Adam Warren, David Phelps and Hector Noesi. The Giants, flat out turned down the deal."

According to Russo, the Giants have been contacted by multiple teams attempting to pry Cain away from the grasp of the black and orange but ask as they might, the chances of Cain not wearing black and orange next year are about the same as Scott Cousins getting a standing ovation if he ever makes a return to AT&T Park.

Also, quite ironic that the Yankees essentially are trying to pawn off Swisher in the deal with intentions/hopes to sign Carlos Beltran to fill his spot.
