Giants To Promote Surprise Call-Up

By Bryan Rose

Yesterday evening, it leaked that the Giants were going to be using one of their 40 man spots for a “surprise” call-up. Andy Baggarly speculated it was to be Bill Hall, a “thank you” if you will for going back to Fresno when the Giants were facing a roster crunch.

However, a bit later, multiple current Richmond Squirrels (Giants AA affiliate) were congratulating an unnamed teammate on Twitter for the big league call-up.

Speculation says it could be Heath Hembree, whom the Giants brass is enamored with. Hembree, who’s split time between San Jose and Richmond this year, has been absolutely filthy, giving up only 11 earned runs in 53.1 innings.

Another potential Squirrel who might see the big’s would be the 23 year old Francisco Peguero, a very solid hitter who lacks any pop but has shown a fantastic ability to get on base during his time in the minors.

Whomever it is, looks like we’ll see shortly…
