Coming into this series, the San Francisco Giants HAD to take at least 2 of 3. Today, they get their opportunity – the Diamondbacks more or less get their chance to put the final nail in the injury plagued Giants coffin.
For the Giants, even Showtime couldn’t have scripted it any better. Sitting six games out, the Giants send unexpected hero Ryan Vogelsong to the hill, the season essentially resting on his arm. Even a Giants win makes things difficult, but stranger things have happened than making up five games in a 22 game span, especially when you still have three games versus the D’Backs. A loss though, which would put the Giants seven games back with only 22 to play, well, the Pebble Beach reservation line opens at 7 AM. I suggest you call early as possible.
Don’t get me wrong – a five game lead with 22 to go is a nice cushion. A five game lead with 22 to go and three versus the challenging team is still cushy, but, you might need some antacids – just to be on the safe side of things.
A win today and the Giants season of
agony continues. A loss – well, at least we have the NBA to fill the fall void. Oh wait. Well – um, err, how bout those Niners!
Please win today. Your sanity of the Bay Area sports fan depends on it.
