Pablo Sandoval To All-Star Game? Riggleman To Join Giants?

By Bryan Rose

Two bits of news for your Saturday afternoon.

First, we start with the possibility of Pablo Sandoval joining Cain, Lincecum, Vogelsong and the Giants coaching staff in Arizona for the 2011 All-Star game. It’s still a bit of a mild long shot, but with Chipper Jones going down due to a significant injury and Placido Polanco still a question mark to play (it’s being said if he doesn’t play tomorrow and he’s currently not expected to, he’ll skip the All-Star game), the National League All-Star team will be in need of another infielder – preferably at the hot corner. Like I said, still a bit of a long shot – but certainly possible.

Secondly, SI.com’s Jon Heyman is reporting that both Bruce Bochy and Brian Sabean called Jim Riggleman yesterday to check on his desire to join the black and orange. Apparently, the conversation went well as the recently resigned Nationals manager will be in San Francisco to interview for a position after the All-Star break. It’s not known what position Riggleman will be potentially interviewing for at this time.

Update: Well so much for that. Scott Rolen and his .249/5/37 triple crown like slash (har, har) will be named to the All-Star team in place of Jones.
