Despite that horrid 9-2 loss to start the series, the Giants managed to take 2 of 3 from the Twins and do what they do best for the remaining 2 games…pitching. Lincecum was on again last night, which was a sight for sore eyes. He struck out 12 in a 2-1 win over the Twins. We also did the other thing we do best–win a one run game.
The team managed 8 hits and went only 2 for 9 with RISP. So, suffice to say, hitting didn’t drastically improve overnight. We still need a bat. I should point out though that Rowand and Tejada (yeah, those guys we love to hate, or maybe just hate sometimes) both went 2 for 3 and accounted for half of our hits on the night. But why focus on the depressing. The good news is hopefully Timmy is coming out of his funk. He pitched 7 scoreless innings. The lone run of course came from Brian Wilson in the 9th, but how else would Wilson have it?
I think the thing that amazes me most about this team is what everyone has been saying all year. Somehow, despite the injuries, piss-poor hitting and even some not-up-to-par-pitching (for the Giants) in a few outings this season, we’re still sitting half a game out of first in the NL West, still 3 games or so over .500, and still finding ways to beat really hot teams like the Twins. So don’t fear Giants fans, all is not lost. I have no doubt that come late September, we’ll be biting our nails, but still buying playoff tickets.
