Giants Sign Utility Man Bill Hall

By Bryan Rose

Quickly reacting to the loss of Freddy Sanchez, the black and orange made an offer to utility man Bill Hall that he couldn’t refuse. An actual contract.

Hall was extremely serviceable last season in Boston where he hit 18 homers and knocked in 46 in 344 at-bat’s – nothing to be ashamed about, especially considering his ability to play all over the diamond. His career .249 average however is a bit nauseating…

Hall was released by the Astros last week after posting a dreadful, Miguel Tejada like line – .224/2/13 in 147 plate appearances – but came cheaply to the Giants who will pay under $300K for his services.

This is the same guy that clubbed 35 dingers and hit .270 in 2006 – not that we should expect anything in that same universe, but, he has proven to be a very productive player during his MLB service and, well, nothing against the in-house options but I’m not really thrilled with those.
