If you’re like us here at Frisco Fastball and still crying over Buster Posey’s injury, here’s something that just may dry up a tear or two. Pablo Sandoval will begin taking batting practice on the field during this series in St. Louis and may be able to re-join the lineup by around June 12 (at the end of the next homestand), per Baggs.
For an idea on how desparete the Giants are to get him into the lineup, consider this. Despite being on the DL for a month, the Panda is sharing the team lead for home runs with Pat Burrell. They have five a piece. Even more to consider, the Giants rank 25th (of 30 teams) in number of Home Runs, Hits and Batting Avg, 29th in RBIs and Runs, 9th in batter Strikeouts, 27th in On Base Percentage (OBP) and Walks, and tied for 8th in GDPs (Ground into Double Play). I’m shocked there are teams worse than us at that actually. By the way, the leader of that terrible stat are the St. Louis Cardinals, who we play today, so we’d be wise to take advantage of that.
Suffice to say, we really could use Pablo’s bat right now and a spark on the team. Let’s also hope he’s kept in shape since spring, as Bochy mentioned Pablo had “put on some weight since spring” but that it was nothing to be concerned about. Hopefully he’s not been frequenting Buca di Beppo.
