Giants Sweep; Sit At Top of NL West

By Melissa Felkins

The Giants completed their 2nd sweep in a row yesterday by beating the Arizona Diamondbacks, after completing the sweep of the Rockies. It was a great two series in which Brian Wilson got 3 wins and 2 saves out of it. He’d have likely gotten the save in the game yesterday, but Bochy decided to give him a day to rest and Lopez ended with the save.

Mike Fontenot’s bat is cooling off, but Cody Ross is finally heating up. We’re seeing good stuff from Ross, Huff, Sanchez and Schierholtz and Burrell is taking some really good at-bats too. Even Miguel Tejada had an RBI in the Diamondback series. Torres looks like he’s back and ready to play some ball. Mark DeRosa is also back, but unfortunately looks like the same guy we’ve seen the past couple seasons…a guy who sits the bench most of the time and doesn’t take advantage of the opportunities given to him.

Pitching as been good too, for the most part. Timmy, Sanchez and Cain struck out a combined 23 Arizona batters. Timmy flirted with the no-hitter for 5 or 6 innings before allowing a hit. This happened just days after Ryan Vogelsong completed 5 perfect innings before giving up a hit.

I’m starting to like this team.
