Giants Squash A’s 4-1

By Melissa Felkins

The Giants are one game closer to a sweep of the Oakland A’s in the pre-season exhibition. The Giants beat them last night in Oakland by a score of 4-1. Here’s a breakdown of the game:

Ramirez got the Win, Runzler got the Hold and Mota got the Save, giving up a combined 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. However, the other big pleaser of the night was Barry Zito. He looked good. His curveball was there and he had the Twitter world claiming something along the lines of him finally earning his salary. I don’t know if that will ever happen, but he did look good and has looked good most of the Spring, so here’s hoping. Last night he gave up only 1 run on 4 hits and had 4 strikeouts and 4 walks. He has a 2.30 ERA for Spring, best of our starting pitchers.

As far as batting, Sandoval had 2 RBIs, Fontenot had 1 RBI and Nate Schierholtz homered in the 8th, perhaps adding some fuel to his case on our too crowded outfield and roster. I think he’s safe until Ross come back at least and depending on the status of Belt (which we’re supposed to find out today), maybe even longer.

One more day guys. The season is here!
