Brandon Belts Three; DeRosa Homers In Win Over Brewers

By Melissa Felkins

The rumors appear to be true, my friends. Brandon Belt is legit. With 3 hits and 4 RBIs today, I think most Giants fans will agree that we’re eager to see him in San Francisco–when he’s ready–and are hoping it will be sooner rather than later.

Mark DeRosa is also having a good spring so far, knocking in his first homer this spring in the Giants 10-9 win over the split squad Brewers today. Ishikawa, Eldred and Fontenot all chipped in doubles as well today and Schierholtz went 2 for 3. It’s nice to see those guys contributing and showing leadership.

Don’t be mislead though, it wasn’t all pretty today. Aside from the three perfect innings Jeff Suppan thew, Giants pitching today was not pretty–beginning with Barry Zito and ending with Casey Daigle.

I know, it’s spring and it’s Zito, but 5 walks in 13 batters in your first spring outing? Come on Barry, give us some reason to justify even half your salary. Kroon and Daigle gave up  2 runs a piece in the 8th and 9th, and pulling the Brewers within 1 run in the bottom of the 9th. That sounds really familiar to Giants fans. If you’ll remember, Daigle is the guy that allowed comeback by Arizona on Friday that he barely squeaked out of. Until Daigle can prove himself, pulling a “Cardiac Kid” is not going to make Giants fans happy. At least Wilson can back it up. Daigle just needs to get the outs.

Tomorrow we’re back in Scottsdale taking on the Cubs.
