Giants Beat LA; Fall To Diamondbacks

By Melissa Felkins

The good news? The Giants beat the Dodgers Saturday 8-3. They combined for 11 hits, 3 of which came from Mark DeRosa. Pablo Sandoval also chipped in for 2 hits including a home run. Jonathan Sanchez pitched 1.2 innings, allowing 4 hits, but no runs. This was a split squad Dodger teams, so perhaps not a true test of the regular season to come, but a win against the Dodgers is always good.

By the way, the other Dodger team also lost on Saturday.

Now for the bad news. The Giants blew a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 8th today against Arizona. Jose Casilla (Santiago Casilla’s younger brother) allowed 3 runners to get on base that eventually scored. Alex Hinshaw replaced him and unfortunately, sealed the fate for the Giants, giving up another run. The end result was a Diamondbacks win 4-3.

It’s not all bad though. Posey and Ross are still looking good, chipping in 2 hits each (though no RBIs) and Sandoval hit his 2nd home run of the spring.

We now stand at 2-1 for the short spring season. A loss is never fun, especially the way we lost today, but it is good to see the regulars from last season leading the team and even better to see that the new and improved Pablo Sandoval may very well be back. Sure, it’s too soon to say for sure, but we can be hopeful.
