Game 1 Recap: The Torture Is Back!

By Melissa Felkins

Giants baseball can be summed up in one word: Torture.

Yes, we loved the torture last season. We thrived on it. We won a World Series with it though, so who are we to complain. It’s no surprise then that game 1 of Spring Training against the Arizona Diamondbacks contained a little bit of that torture from last season.

But, just like last season, it all turned out okay. The Giants beat the Diamondbacks 7-6 yesterday in the Spring Training opener. Lincecum pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up 3 runs and 5 hits. Bumgarner also pitched a couple innings and gave up 2 hits and 1 run.

The good news is that Rookie of the Year Buster Posey’s bat is still working. He had 2 hits and 2 RBIs in the game. Burrell, Rowand, Tejada, DeRosa and Sandoval also chipped in with 1 RBI each.

Of course, what good would a Giants game be without a little drama. After the 3 runs Lincecum game up in the first inning, and 1 run in the 3rd, the Diamondbacks waited to strike again in the 9th. Giants pitcher Casey Daigle allowed 2 runs in the 9th and the tying run on 2nd base. Sounds a little too familiar, huh?  Daigle and the Giants pulled it off though, getting the final out and winning their opener.

Today, we face off with a split-squad Dodger team. That means we’re unlikely to have a chance at any “boo-ribe” chants today, as rumor is Juan Uribe is not going to be at Scottsdale Stadium today.
