Giants Sign Andres Torres – Avoid Arbitration

By Bryan Rose

And the last domino falls in the arbitration eligible players.

Andres Torres is expected to sign a contract today for about 2.1 million dollars, a small increase over the 2 million he was offered by the Giants offered earlier this week. Torres had originally asked for 2.6 million and was originally offered 1.6 before the Giants increased their offer to 2 million. After the Giants added the extra 100K, both sides decided it was a fair deal and Torres met the Giants in the middle of the original offer.

All seven players who were arbitration eligible are now signed, sealed, and delivered for the upcoming season.

And one final note – the Giants signed pitcher Jeff Suppan to a minor league deal earlier this week. If, and that’s a big if, but IF Suppan does make it out of Spring Training with a big league roster spot, he’ll be awarded with a one year, one million dollar contract. Suppan holds a career 138-143 record
