Reds Interested In Edgar Renteria Now?

By Bryan Rose

Current Reds GM Walt Jocketty (and former Cardinals GM during Renteria’s Red Bird tenure) admitted to the Cincinnati Enquirer yesterday that he has indeed spoken to the World Series MVP about coming to play for the NL Central Champions. Shortstop is one of the few holes the Reds do have, so, the move makes sense for both parties assuming the money is right as Renteria would have at least a decent chance at overtaking current SS Paul Janish as opposed to potentially platooning with Miguel Tejada in San Francisco.

At this point, I’m pretty much over the whole Renteria-gate situation. He’s nothing more than an average player at this point and while I appreciate his contributions, this type of drawn out saga for a player of his caliber is a bit silly. If playing in San Francisco for a million dollars isn’t your cup of tea, sounds good – move on. The wishy/washy “I’ve been disrespected” Broadway show has run its course.
