Jon Miller Cuts Ties With ESPN – Giants Broadcasts Only

By Bryan Rose

While both Kruk & Kuip are in the process of hopefully renewing their contracts (and why wouldn’t they…)…it appears Jon Miller will not be taking the ESPN Radio gig and will take on a larger role with the Giants now that he’ll be available for weekend games.

Prior to this season, Jon Miller was only available for Monday-Friday games (and sometimes not even) due to his commitment with ESPN. However, after Miller and his broadcast partner Joe Morgan were let go earlier this month, Miller’s status with the sporting heavyweight was in doubt. ESPN had hoped Miller would stay on as the radio voice of Sunday Night Baseball but Miller told the Merc he wasn’t interested and he’ll be available for all 162 Giant games in the 2011 season.

So, how will it all shake out? Tough call right now. We’ll assume both Kruk & Kuip will return (and if they don’t, I’ll stalk them until they do. Just joking. Maybe.) and it’s possible the Giants could go with a three man booth or continue the alternating they so famously do between radio and television. It’ll be interesting to see, either way, Jon Miller, one of the best voices baseball has ever had, will be gracing our ears for 162 games this coming year.
